Inaugurated in July 1923, Zoológico de Chapultepec is the second biggest zoo in Mexico with an area of 17 hectares where they house about 1930 animals of 250 different species such as leopars, sea lions, rhinos, tigers, otters, lions, penguins and many more. It is member of its own country zoo association AZCARM (Association of Zoos, Breeders and Aquariums of México). Their first gorilla to be imported to Chapultepec, Dinga, a seventen years old male, arrived here in July 1987 from Erie Zoo, and Bantu (their current silverback), born in September 1991 to parents Mahari and Dinga, was their first baby gorilla.
